Knowledge Technologies (KT) works with the Department of Defense to develop novel computer and Web-based tools to help defense and intelligence organizations perform their missions. Examples include:

• Automatic grading of essays that is as accurate as expert instructors, but returns scores and tutorial advice in seconds. The Intelligent Essay Assessor™ has been used by the Army, Air Force, and Marines.
• CareerMap™ is a system that places jobs, tasks, training courses, and people in the same "semantic space." It can find the best person out of tens of thousands to fill a job, or the best eight to form a complete team.
• Knowledge Post® is a collaborative learning environment where officers discuss scenarios and problems and learn from each other's experience and knowledge.
• Multilingual information detection and analysis. Our unique cross language information retrieval technology can create a meaning-based search engine for a new language in a month. Topics stated in English match similar ones in the other languages--all automatically.

The R&D for these applications began at Bell Communications Research (Bellcore, now Telcordia), and continued at the University of Colorado and Knowledge Analysis Technologies (now KT), under sponsorship of ARI, ONR, AFRL, DARPA, NASA, NIST, DOEd, and NSF.
