WriteToLearn Version 2.0 Debuts
More than 100 Reading Passages, 100 Essay Topics Now Included in
Pearson Knowledge Technologies' Web-Based Learning Tool
BOULDER, Colo. - Oct. 18, 2006
- Pearson Knowledge Technologies today
announced the launch of an updated version of WriteToLearn™,
a Web-based learning tool that helps students develop writing and
reading comprehension skills. WriteToLearn Version 2.0 now contains
more than 100 reading passages and 100 essay topics, as well as enhanced
administrative tools.
With WriteToLearn, students practice essay writing and summarization
skills, and their efforts are measured by Pearson's state-of-the-art
Knowledge Analysis Technologies™ (KAT) engine, which automatically
evaluates the meaning of text by examining whole passages. Students
receive immediate, specific feedback on their work, and teachers easily
monitor student efforts individually or as a class.
"Teachers tell us that their students are using the guided
practice and automated feedback they receive from WriteToLearn
to develop strong reading and writing skills and to understand content
on a deeper level," said Lynn Streeter, president, Pearson
Knowledge Technologies. "Now with the added social studies, science
and language arts reading passages and essay topics that align to state
assessments, WriteToLearn is an even more powerful tool for building
student reading comprehension and writing abilities."
The new reading passages in WriteToLearn include 80 selected readings
from Pearson Prentice Hall's market leading middle grades textbook
programs, "Science Explorer" and "World Studies".
The number of essay topics
for practicing writing skills now exceeds 100. New topics come from
widely used literature textbooks and from aligning WriteToLearn to
writing assessments in states, such as Washington and Texas. In
addition, with enhanced administrative functionality, schools can now
locally manage WriteToLearn teacher accounts, creating and editing
logins and passwords.
WriteToLearn is available through a trimester, semester or annual
student subscription and can be purchased from Pearson Prentice Hall,
Pearson Assessments and Apple (as part of the Apple Digital
Learning Series for middle and high school language arts). For
